#3: Chronological Discontinuity - The SM Timeline WARNING! I wrote up this time line theory almost 2 years ago. I wrote it before the chapter 'Parallelsailormoon' was published (thus I had to squeeze the new Kousagi data into my already made timeline)... and as a result my 'fixed' timeline is different than the information I used when I wrote the 'Eldest Daughter Problem'. I used the exact recorded dates when I wrote the 'Eldest Daughter Problem'. Even if I did choose to use my own 'fixed' timeline, Kousagi still turns out older than Chibiusa. The warning is... do not think of the 'Eldest Daughter Problem' when reading this essay, and vice versa. You will get very confused if this is your first time dealing with these problems. I think the most confusing part of the Sailormoon series is the way the dates were placed drastically out of wack. If you take every date and exact year given in the manga as solid fact, then you end up with a time warp that has a two year overlap, a month overlap, and an area where a whole year's worth of events are squashed into the span of about one month. If you want to make or see a timeline for the series you have three possible options: 1. The exact record of events and dates given in the manga (mistakes included), 2. the reorganized and odd -yet still possible timeline- (mistakes compensated for or ignored), or 3. a timeline that ignores most given dates and mistakes to provide you with a 100% possible and most likely real life example of the Sailormoon timeline. I will provide two timelines here. First you will see the exact record from the manga (which is literally impossible due to the overlaps etc...), and then my own personal recreation which stays true to the order of events but changes years around to be realistic. Please read the original record first before reading my own timeline, so that you can better understand where the mistakes are and why I made the changes I did. NOTE: I included events and dates that appear in three seperate manga; Codename wa SailorV, Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, and the extra special chapter Parallelsailormoon. There is another manga by Naoko which uses Usagi's teacher Sakurada Haruna, but I did not include anything from that manga in this timeline. Exact Record of Dates and Events (note all the warps in time, and how it is impossible for these dates to be realistic) 1990 at some point during this year - Makoto (at age 10~11) starts living with her boyfriend, who she will marry in two years 1991 June - Kousagi is born (also during this year Ami, Rei, Mako, and Mina [the daughters of the Sailorsenshi] are born) 1992 September - Minako is 12-years-old, she meets Artemis and becomes the super heroine SailorV October - Minako has her 13th birthday She continues to battle dark forces December - Minako wins a trip to Hawaii and visits there on her winter vacation At some point during this year - Makoto get's married (she is 13) 1993 February - Minako celebrates Valentines day, everyone gets fat on Rainbow Choco. Kaitou Ace appears August - Minako goes to China to be in the 'Chinese Princess Story' with Kaitou Ace. Minako finds out that Kaitou Ace is actually Danbulite. Usagi, Minako, Chibiusa, and Mamoru travel to the future during the battle of the Black Moon. September - Usagi is 14-years-old, she meets Luna and becomes the super heroine Sailormoon. Ami has her 14th birthday and transfers to Usagi's school. Ami becomes Sailormercury and Rei becomes Sailormars October - Makoto transfers to Usagi's school and becomes Sailorjupiter November - Battle with the Dark Kingdom continues... 1994 April - Rei has her 15th birthday, Rain Tree battle begins June - Usagi has her 15th birthday, Rain Tree battle ends July - Minako meets Usagi and the others for the first time, she is already Sailorvenus August - Battle with the Dark Kingdom ends. Mamoru turns 18 September - Chibiusa falls from the sky. Ami turns 15. The battle with the Black Moon begins 1995 June - Usagi turns 16, Chibiusa turns 901 (only because she is in the past) August - Mamoru turns 19. Usagi, Minako, Chibiusa, and Mamoru travel to the future. Black Moon battle ends September Chibiusa starts school in the past. Chibiusa travels back to the future, then returns to the past again 1996 February - Battle with the Death Busters begins March - The girls plan Rei's birthday party April - Rei turns 17 June - Usagi turns 17 and Chibiusa turns 902 (remember, she is in the past) July - Chibiusa defeats a fake Sailormoon all by herself December - Himeko is launched into space on Christmas eve while Luna becomes human for a few hours and travels to space with Kakeru. 1997 January - The battle with the Death Busters has ended (but there is no given date for exactly when this occurs), The battle with the Dead Moon Circus begins August - Battle with the Dead Moon Circus ends. Mamoru turns 21 September - Mamoru leaves for the U.S. by plane but is killed by Sailorgalaxia, the Sailor War battles begin. After the Sailor War battles end and Sailorgalaxia and Sailorchaos are gone (probably before the new year) Mamoru and Usagi get married. 1998 1999 July - Kousagi, Ami, Rei, Mako, and Mina are in the 3rd grade. Kousagi meets a pink cat and becomes Parallelsailormoon. 2000 2001 June - Usagi turns 22, becomes queen of Crystal Tokyo and gives birth to Chibiusa Hundreds of years later... In September of the year 2901 Chibiusa (900 years old) steals the Silver Crystal and travels to the past on the same date to September of 1994 Now... you might be wondering "why are these events all mixed up?!" I think almost everyone can agree that some dates were just randomly selected, some were the actual date in real time (meaning, whenever Naoko drew it is the date she used), or sometimes Naoko did pick a certain date for an event. It's hard to tell which are the important dates to use and which are the randomly selected ones that are messing up the timeline. Naoko also set ages and indicated when some future events will occur based on how old a character will be by then (For example: The manga indicates that Usagi is/will be 22-years-old when Chibiusa is born. So, this forces the timeline to have Chibiusa's birth occur on Usagi's 22nd birthday, because they have the same birthday). This also clashes with other time-date indicators, like Chibiusa's set age, when she traveled to the past... and so on. We know for sure that the date that the chapter 'Parallelsailormoon' took place was both intended AND was close to the actual date Naoko drew it. All the other dates in the series manga are questionable though... The 'Codename wa SailorV' manga spans from Spring of 1992 to August 1993. Minako is the only discovered Sailorsenshi until about a month or two after August '93. This makes either the date on the calander held by Usagi in 'Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon' volume 5 or the date on the Dark Shizuka-hime Tour poster literally impossible. The Dark Shizuka-hime Tour had to happen in 1991, or, if it did happen in 1992 (as indicated by the poster shown in the manga), then the scene in BSSM vol. 5 had to have happened in 1994 and not 1993. Gaa! So confusing! 'Fixed' Timeline created by Natsuki (all events are the same, only the years have been shifted to make sense in real time) 1992 September - Minako is 12-years-old, she meets Artemis and becomes the super heroine SailorV October - Minako has her 13th birthday She continues to battle dark forces December - Minako wins a trip to Hawaii and visits there on her winter vacation 1993 February - Minako celebrates Valentines day, everyone gets fat on Rainbow Choco. In the year 2006 Kousagi and all the senshi's children turn 8, Kousagi then becomes Parallelsailormoon and the others become senshi as well. Crystal Tokyo still does not exist yet at this point. Hundreds of years later... Crystal Tokyo is in existance. In September of the year 2901 Chibiusa (900 years old) steals the Silver Crystal and travels to the past to September of 1994 That must have confused just about everyone who just went over those two timelines. I did not make my timeline to replace the dates in the manga or imply that my timeline is what Naoko ment. I took the facts and events from the manga and organized them in the correct order that they appear. The only change is where I assigned different years to some events so that they are not warped and unrealistic. I think my timeline will be useful for those of you who have tried to untangle the timeline yourselves but still need a little help in doing so.
