Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon ~Another Story~
(an RPG game on Super Famicom [SuperNES])
This game has been around for a long time, but I finally was able to play it for the first time recently. I haven't completed the whole game yet, and am still on chapter two. But I like the game so far and I'll be including a page about it here.
The game's plot (thus far) is set up in the same way as the plot for the second part of the R season in the anime (a group of people trying to 'over throw' Neo Queen Serenity and her ginzuishou). Of course in the game the main enemies (the bosses) are all new characters found only in this game (and not in the anime or manga). As usual the "sub-bosses" have elements and abilities similar to each of the five "inner" senshi (Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus). The "sub-bosses" look almost identical to each senshi with the exception of a few outfit and hair differences. The common enemies (the ones roaming around that you bump into all the time) are the various daily enemies from the anime. Most seem to be ranging from the very first season up to characters from the 'Super' season. So far I've seen Kyurene, Garoben, Maerd, Tesnni, Jumeau, Blizza, Jakok, Cenicienta, U-Choten, Aggeshou, Avagadora, Octave, Furaiki, and I think a few more.
The first chapter is set up as any other RPG, it's an introduction chapter where you meet all the characters, find out some detailed information about your character(s), a little info about who you'll be fighting, and a few areas to start leveling up. Then, the next few chapters afterward go deeper into the story (the main body of the adventure) and you learn more detailed information about each of these "sub-bosses" while leveling up each of the "inner" senshi as they are split up. I haven't gone much past the 'Venus' part of chapter two, but I'm guessing after each of the "inner" adventures are completed the story will expand on the games 'group attacks' and 'linking' features. Also in chapter two, each senshi forms a crush on a guy in the area they are searching.
- Version of the game-
So far I have obtained two ROMS of this same game; One is the original Japanese, and another is a fan translation by a group called 'Bishoujo Senshi Translations'. On the English fan translation by B.S.T. that I have, it claims to be 'version 1.00'. I sure hope they made another version because this one has tons of mistakes.
Watch for the following while playing the fan translation:
- one of the Defense UP items (I think it was one of Mercury's accessories) is marked as Attack UP. There may be more mistakes like this. If you have this ROM, please read carefully and watch your stats to make sure the item is doing what you want it to. They also describe and/or name some items in such a way that you have no idea what it does until you test and figure it out (I'm not talking about items that are ambiguous to begin with).
- they also incorrectly name a bunch of characters. One enemy in particular, Cenicienta, is an actual word in Spanish (meaning Cinderella, literally the female form of the word 'ceniciento' meaning 'ashtray') but they have it spelling in some totally different confusing way.
- some parts are also translated oddly. Somewhere (I forgot where, and I haven't been able to find it again) it describes an attack as "this is an old man??", there are also several other spots in the translation where they have either oddly translated the sentence or word, or they have '??' next to a part they couldn't translate. They also have a few romanized Japanese words untranslated.
If anyone out there has a higher version of B.S.T.'s translation of the game, please let me know so I can praise them for fixing these mistakes. So far I'm only reviewing version 1.00 of their translation.
As I said, I just started playing this game, please give me some time to complete it and add more info and pictures. I won't ever be putting up any ROMS, so please don't ask about them.
