Cute Baby Pokemon ---

I think the coolest feature of Pokemon Crystal are the new baby pokemon, and all the fun stuff you can do with breeding pokemon. The baby pokemon are: Pichuu, Smoochum (
Muchuuru), Cleffa (
Pi), Magby (
Bubi), Togepi, Igglybuff, Tyrogue (
Barukii), and Elekid.
Everyone automatically gets a Togepi egg right away and a Tyrogue later on in the game. If you're playing Crystal you'll also get a random baby pokemon egg in addition to your Togepi egg when you visit the Day Care Center for the first time.
My random baby was an
alternate color Smoochum (that's nearly impossible!).

Easy Ways to Get Baby Pokemon ---
The guide books tell you that you need another pokemon of the same breeding group as Pikachuu and that you need a female Pikachuu.
Don't bother!
The fastest way to obtain a cuddly Pichuu is to do what I did and use the genderless Ditto and the male Pikachuu traded over from yellow. I also use Ditto for all my other breeding as well (except in the case of trying to put different moves on different pokemon). If you're going to use Ditto for breeding fast, just keep it in the day care and it will be up to level 50 before you know it! All the baby pokemon you want plus a high level Ditto sounds good to me.
Each of the parent pokemon are listed below with their baby pokemon (English version):
Pikachuu - Pichuu
Jynx - Smoochum
Clefairy - Cleffa
Magmar - Magby
Electabuzz - Elekid
Togetic - Togepi
Jigglypuff - Igglybuff
Hitmonlee (or chan) - Tyrogue
Don't worry about gender, just catch or trade over your ditto and the parent of the baby you want and put them both in the day care. Make sure you talk to them to see if they like each other. Then, bike up and down Goldenrod city until you see the old man standing outside with your pokemon. Talk to him, get your egg, and continue on with your game as usual. If you want the baby to hatch right away, you'll have to ride up and down Goldenrod a bunch of times until it hatches. Hatching is based on steps, not time.
If you already beat the game and are breeding for babies to complete your pokedex, you can also bike up and down route 24 or 17 in Kanto.

Get Alternate Color Baby Pokemon ---
Don't plan on being able to get any alternate color pokemon right away. I was lucky and got an alternate color Smoochum within the first 2 hours of my game.
Before you try this, you should complete the game (Johto and Kanto).
The fastest way to
try to get an alternate color baby pokemon is to leave your pair of parents in the day care and hatch hundreds of babies in batches of 5 (because you always have to have one active pokemon in your party).
You'll have to keep riding around until the old man appears and you get the eggs from him, then just keep going till they hatch and release them right away if they aren't an alternate color. Do that, and repeat. It will take lots of time, and you may never get one.
You'll know if the hatched baby is an alternate if it makes the 'bling bling bling bling' noise and sparkles when it hatches. If you're not sure if it's an alternate color pokemon after it's hatched, simply check it's stats. If it is an alternate color pokemon it will have three stars next to it's 'gender' symbol (the symbol that indicates if it is a male or female pokemon). For example, on the stats page for my female alternate color Smoochum, the symbol appears like this:
(read
this page for more information about the alternate color pokemon, and how to catch them).
